  FRI EP Reflection 060421 (Luke 18: 9-14) We live in a world that encourages us to be confident, assertive and forward looking, all of which are great assets to have. As it turns out, we can not export this same thinking into holiness. How would one respond to the question: Are you holy? Without being defensive, and look at the question objectively from a pure heart as non-accusing and unassuming, we quickly realize that in our response, we all tend to look into our past… It surprises me that something in us reacts strongly to a possible accusation even if accusation is not intended.   Thu EP Reflection 060321 (Deut. 16: 18-20; Luke 18:1-8) God’s concern for Justice. V. 19 “ You must not distort justice; you must not show partiality ”. I have been a member of Amnesty international for the last 10 years. I have learned a few things about humans’ idea of justice. The majority of cases I have read, are truly deserving of my attention. Most times, I learnt that in countries with high records of human rights abuses, victims are sentenced to death for issues that truly don’t deserve death penalty. God was concerned about Israel’s judges. God instructed them to show no partiality. I am yet to see a human court in which, there is no partiality. In the Gospel according to Luke 18, Jesus tells a story of a widow that went to a really bad judge, yet because she annoyed him with incessant visits, he agreed to sort out her case, not out of the need to do the right thing but because he wanted to get rid of her.   Entering God's School Of Life THU Evening Prayer Reflection 052021 (Ez. 18:1-32; Ps 105; Luke 10: 25-37) Today’s Psalm 105 brings out the interesting story of Joseph in the Old Testament. The Church Fathers were not interested in embellishing stories like Hollywood does. They taught us to look way deeper into these stories and discover a wealth of insights. The Psalmist wrote: “ He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. They bruised his feet in fetters; his neck they put in an iron collar. Until his prediction came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him .” I have always had sympathy for Joseph because of his sufferings. I felt he didn’t deserve it, and it lasted so long…You could say that the jealousy of his brothers brought about his misfortune: He was sold into slavery.
